Text, Talk, Act

As part of The NICD's Creating Community Conversations initiative Text, Talk, Act is engaging tens of thousands of people in all 50 states in impactful conversations about mental health. Getting youth, in particular, to talk aobut mental health is important, since 3/4 of all mental health problems begin between the ages of 14 and 24. Through this innovative, NICD-developed dialogue platform people are gathering in small groups (in dorm rooms, kitchens, cafes, classrooms, and more) to participate in the growing movement to bring mental health concerns out of the shadows and into the light, and to launch real systemic change. Participants say Text, Talk, Act is fun, flexible, easy, convenient, and leads to meaningful conversations that build peer understanding support.

Get started!

Gather 3-4 people with one cell phone per group. Text START to 89800 to receive a series of text messages that guides your group through a conversation on mental health: why it is important, how you can care for your own mental health, how to help a friend in need, and how to support change in your community. The text messages include videos, social media interactions, polling questions and discussion questions.
