Former Representative Nancy Garland served in the Ohio House representing the 20th House District from 2009 to 2012. Representative Garland considers one of her landmark pieces of legislation a law that prohibits texting and driving which she sponsored with one of the most conservative members of the Republican House Caucus.  She was also able to pass legislation in thHouse twice that would require insurance companies to cover individuals with autism and saw legislation enacted that discourages bullying. Presently Representative Garland is an adjunct professor at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. She also serves on the Ohio University Dean's Academic Counsel for the School of Health Sciences and on the board of Prevent Blindness Ohio. Additionaly, Garland has been a Next Generation workshop facilitator for over two years. She and her husband reside in Wilmington, North Carolina.
