At this month’s Leading with Civility leadership summit, 23 state legislators, Republicans and Democrats, came together to address incivility and polarization in state politics.
We thank Rep. Colleen Burton, R-Lakeland, for taking part in the conference because it is imperative that our elected officials build strong relationships with all of their colleagues, even when they disagree.
Civil discourse is a foundational part of our democracy, and constituents depend on lawmakers to work together and compromise. Especially at this time of extreme division throughout the country, it’s important for politicians to put civility above partisanship. We hope Rep. Burton will set an example for her constituents and colleagues by building civility in Tallahassee.
